Philippines Palawan
Formerly known as "the Last
Frontier", the island of Palawan used to be the place where
society's outcasts were sent; lepers, convicts and other members of
society who were deemed unproductive and menacing to society. Today, the
island is celebrated as one of the country's premier tourist
destinations, hosting several of the country's most exclusive resorts.
Famous for its white sand beaches, magnificent landscape, lush tropical vegetation and fishing villages, the island of Palawan has been synonymous to two buzzwords of modern travel, eco-tourism, and adventure travel.
Tabon Caves, containing fossils and crude tools of prehistoric people; Ursula Island, a bird's paradise and sanctuary; Puerto Princesa, a favorite destination among tourists; El Nido, host to several world-class resorts; Coron, a favorite honeymoon get-away; Calauit Island, an island wildlife sanctuary with exotic animals like giraffes and zebras imported from Africa by the late president Marcos; and Amanpulo, the most exclusive and expensive island resort in the country are just some of the many island attractions in Palawan.
